Canaan Valley Institute (CVI) captured LiDAR elevation data for the Abram's Creek watershed in Grant and Mineral Counties, West Virginia The watershed is approximately 30, 265 acres. The average flying altitude above ground level is 300 meters. The pulse rate frequency is 100 kHz per second. The scan frequency is 50Hz. The scan angle is +/- 20 degrees.
<purpose>CVI collected and processed LiDAR data to aide in ongoing studies in the Abram's creek watershed.</purpose>
<supplinf>Canaan Valley Institute is actively acquiring LiDAR terrain data and digital color orthophotography using the Optech ALTM 3100, which can fire up to 100,000 laser pulses per second, with an integrated 3-band digital camera. The positional accuracy of these laser returns are within 15 centimeters in the vertical axis, with at least one laser shot placed every square meter and providing up to four vertical returns. The sensors are mounted in a Piper Navajo twin engine aircraft that is housed at the Fairmont Municipal Airport. LiDAR combines three different technologies to produce laser terrain mapping: GPS, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) compensation, and laser ranging. The laser data is then processed with the GPS and IMU data to produce highly accurate and precise terrain mapping that can be used for environmental, municipal, engineering, and planning applications.</supplinf></descript>

<useconst>These data sets were created with the highest consideration of accuracy and data integrity. However, as with all other geospatial data sets, users must take into consideration the consequences of using the data for specific applications,
business processes, decisions, and map display. For example, surface conditions may have changed in some areas since the initial data was captured. A metadata record is provided to help the user understand the date, map scale and accuracy standard applied in the collection and data development process.
The data should not be used without full review and comprehension of the metadata.
Data further derived from this
data set should be fully documented using the federal metadata standard.
There is no guarantee of warranty concerning the accuracy of the data. Users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this data set was collected and that some parts of this data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use this data for critical applications without a full awareness of its limitations. Acknowledgement of the originating agencies would be appreciated in products derived from these data. Any user who modifies the data is obligated to describe the types of modifications they perform.</useconst>
